I shared on instagram earlier this week that we’re moving to the other side of town in June! What a whirlwind it’s been—two weeks ago we had no leads and then a week later, we’re signing a lease!
So here’s the story. Alex and I have agreed the past two springs that if we found a reasonably priced two bedroom house or duplex, that we’d make the effort to move into that space. Ideally, we’d live there until we could buy a house (or needed to move to another city for jobs) because I really don’t like moving! We’re currently in a one bedroom apartment, and if we’re going to start a family in the next few years, I wanted to be out of this situation for our sanity and any neighbors’ sanity.
I was honestly really glad we didn’t find anything last year. Including all of the moving in-and-out of dorms, I’ve moved my stuff 9 times in the past 6 years, so it was nice to have a summer off for once.
I was slightly more okay with moving this year, since our kitchen is so tiny and I don’t want to pay for laundry anymore. Alex wants to garden and I want to start composting. So, minor reasons—things we could live with if we didn’t find something, but just annoying enough to get us out of here ASAP. I was actually starting to lose hope for this year—I’ve been looking on Craigslist and Zillow daily since January. And my daily, I mean at least twice a day. There are so many great places in Kent, but most of them don’t allow cats.
We drove around one Sunday looking for “for rent” signs. We literally saw two in the whole town, and one of them was this place. Long story short, we visited it last week and instantly fell in love. There’s a ton of windows, two bedrooms, wood floors, high ceilings, a big front porch, and a back yard (no laundry, but we’re looking at options). And there’s a kitchen that can physically fit more than two people 🙌.We’re so excited to move. Well, I’m excited to be done with moving… but, we’ll have the whole summer to live there, which is the peak time of living in Kent 🌞. We can start moving our stuff in mid-May (one short month away 😳), so according to the internet, I should start packing now, but I probably won’t for another few weeks.
In the meantime, I’ll be soaking up this apartment’s morning light, gas stove, and… that’s pretty much it.
